Gems from around the (PM) world - Vol 18
Hey PMs
Happy Friday. Here are some things I found of immense value about product management. Hope you find them useful too.
In this post:
Gem #1: Shape up methodology by BaseCamp
Gem #2: How to accelerate growth by focusing on the features you already have by Ken Rudin
Gem #3: What I wish I’d known about unemployment by Erin Anne Lynch
Gem #1: Shape up methodology by BaseCamp
I love the Shape up product development method by Basecamp.
Jason Fried and his founders wrote this guide about this unique product development method.
This book is a guide to how we do product development at Basecamp. It’s also a toolbox full of techniques that you can apply in your own way to your own process.
If you are a VP Product or CPO or CTO and want to improve the predictability of your products success.
”We have two separate tracks: one for shaping, one for building. During any six week cycle, the teams are building work that’s been previously shaped and the shapers are working on what the teams might potentially build in a future cycle.”
Gem #2: How to accelerate growth by focusing on the features you already have by Ken Rudin
As PMs, we are constantly seeking new growth areas, product features but rarely think about how to leverage your existing product to grow.
In this article Ken makes a point that sometimes it is better to double down on the existing features and use them for growth rather than build new features. He introduces his framework this article.
This was a guest article Lenny’s newsletter. I can’t tell if this article is a paid version or not. Regardless Lenny’s newsletter is worth paying for.
Gem #3: What I wish I’d known about unemployment by Erin Anne Lynch
Many people are still looking for work after the tech lay offs in the past year or so. I understand that the job search can be daunting. Your self esteem takes a hit and you question your own self worth.
But don’t think like that. Here is a nice article by Erin Anne Lynch to help you get through.
