Hey PMs
Happy Friday. Here is an interesting post on the topic of personas and it’s diminished value.
Caitlin Sullivan is a user researcher and proposes that building personas is not very helpful for building products or your startup.
She suggests that instead of building personas, ask the following questions.
1️⃣ What is the 1 big problem we are trying to solve with our product?
2️⃣ What needs to be true about a person for them to face that problem? What needs to be true about their context for them to face the problem (regularly)?
3️⃣ What's their ideal outcome, or the progress they're trying to make?
4️⃣ What alternative solutions have they used to solve the problem? Where and how did they fall short of delivering their ideal outcome?
5️⃣ What prevents them from achieving their ideal outcome today?
Here is the link to the post. It has a PDF attached.
