Story telling is a critical skill for all professions. And especially for product managers as they have to make a case for whatever they are presenting - product strategy, roadmap, launch plans etc.
In this article Alex talks about a framework that large consulting firms use. There are some basic principles of story telling that I think you will find useful.
If you are a good presenter and story teller, you are on your way to be a great PM.
Here is the article.
Gem #2: How to Automate B2B SaaS Hypothesis Testing by Andrew Bush
As an advisor at Skydeck, I frequently encounter startups who are challenged to find early prospects to build their list, or even for customer discovery.
I recommend started the discovery with people they know in their network and then ask for introductions. While it’s a great start, it’s not scalable.
In this article, Andrew provides a more scalable method. If you are a startup founder, give it a try.
Gem #3: The Economics of Everyday things by Zachary Crockett
As a product manager, you have to have a good understanding of your customers, the markets and the industry you operate in. I feel it is also important to understand the economics of your country, your industry, your market.
There are a million books on economics, most are pedantic and academic. The best way to learn economics is to understand every day things around you.
I recently started following this interested podcast where they pick one product or service like how fast stations work, or how girls scouts became a billion dollar business, and analyze the economics.
Here is the podcast link on Spotify. You can find them on other podcast channels too.
